Following  a recent reorganisation of our small marine team, Littlehampton Harbour is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate for the post of Harbour Conservancy Officer.

The successful applicant will have a working knowledge of busy, small harbours and will hold current RYA qualifications sufficient to coxswain LHB vessels following internal training. They will also possess good leadership skills, be confident with advising and directing the public in a dynamic environment, have a full driving license and possess strong communication and IT skills. A strong work ethic, a positive attitude and a flexible outlook is a must. Experience in managing response to incidents and/or undertaking enforcement activity would be desirable.

This role presents an excellent first step towards a Deputy / Assistant Harbour Master post in Littlehampton or elsewhere. This post will report directly to the Deputy Harbour Master and will be based in the Harbour Office but will also include work across the harbour afloat and ashore. The post is full time in 1st April to 30th September (including at least 1 in 4 weekends) and 3 days per week 1st October to 31st March. In the winter months additional project work may provide additional employment bringing the role close to full-time (e.g. this is expected to be the case in February and March 2023 but may not necessarily be the case in future winters).

Limited overtime may be available for certain duties including assisting with commercial shipping movements).

Salary is dependent on experience in the region of £23,000 pro rata (subject to an annual uplift from April each year). The post is also eligible for a generous Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). A full job description and person specification is included overleaf.
