South East England combines the highest average daytime temperatures found in the British Isles with the highest sunshine averages on the British mainland. This means that coastal resort towns like Littlehampton enjoy more hours of sunshine that anywhere else in Britain.

Rainfall is below average (577mm pa) and the July mean maximum temperature is 22ºC.

The coast has consistently more sunshine than inland areas: sea breezes from late spring through the summer, blow off the sea and tend to clear cloud from the coast.
