Beaches­

Visit the West Beach Local Nature Reserve and Visitor Centre. The West Beach is a special place for wildlife and has one of only three sand dune ­systems in West Sussex. There is a boardwalk through the dunes from where you can view the remains of Littlehampton’s Napoleonic Fort.

Beyond the beach is the Clymping Gap where you can enjoy the walks and wildlife. More information at www.clympinggappartnership.org.uk

The East Beach is a Blue Flag Beach patrolled by lifeguards in the summer. Walk along the East Beach seafront, take your seat on the Long Bench and see the graceful shapes of the shelters. Children will love a visit to the Lion’s Den play area close to the East Beach Café.

Have fun at Harbour Park

Littlehampton Marina

Visit the Lifeboat Station

The lifeboat station, home of the original Blue Peter 1, is open most days to visitors who would like to see the boats and equipment including the Atlantic 75 (Blue Peter 1) and D Class (Spirit of Juniper) lifeboats. www.littlehamptonlifeboat.co.uk

Look and Sea Heritage Exhibition­

The Look and Sea’s heritage trail with interactive displays tells the harbour’s story. See rescues at sea and discover artefacts from the many shipwrecks off the coast. Visit the viewing tower and enjoy the spectacular 360° view from Goodwood to Highdown and across the harbour and beyond. www.lookandsea.co.uk

Visit Arundel by bus or train

Take the bus or train to Arundel and enjoy a day out in the historic town and a visit to Arundel Castle and Gardens, 01903 882173/883136.

Arundel Wildfowl and Wetland Centre

You can take a trip on an electric boat to spot water voles in 26 hectares of naturalised landscapes and wetland habitats, also home to kingfishers and many hundreds of wildfowl.
